Summer is still here today (although it was -3 degrees last night) and Sam is here to fit the lighting in the new stairwell to the attic and to test the system and get the lights working. We have never seen these lights lit up and really have no idea how they will look in… Continue reading Working lights!

Sun, stud walls & shutters
It’s a sunny Saturday morning and Glynn is here to build the stud wall around the attic staircase. As we are within a few mm of tolerance in complying with building regulations, we measure it all very carefully. The laser marks out where the new wall will sit down the side of the staircase. We… Continue reading Sun, stud walls & shutters
Working bathroom & heating!
Our plumber, Andrew, is still clearing up the mess left by our old plumber. Every day he comes across another mess that he has to put right. This is a zone valve that circulates hot water from the boiler, so rather a crucial bit of kit. Ours was installed upside down (!) and as a… Continue reading Working bathroom & heating!
Serendipity
So after many meetings and discussions, measuring up again and again, getting our Architect to redraw our plans (with an L-shaped staircase rather than the U-shaped one) and speak with Building Control to see if they would approve it, the ‘wrong’ staircase is actually going to fit!!! We were always under the impression that an… Continue reading Serendipity
The wrong staircase…
So our new staircase for the attic bedroom arrived last week, ready to assemble in place, but to our total horror it was the wrong bloody staircase! We have a completely different staircase designed and agreed with Building Control, a U-shaped staircase, but this is L-shaped… WTF happened we have no idea, but somewhere between… Continue reading The wrong staircase…
Flagstone scrubbing (third time lucky)
After 6 months we are finally able to remove the Ram Board that has been protecting the flagstone floor in the sitting room. I cannot recommend Ram Board enough, it is REALLY good stuff, all our floors are as they were when they got covered and, unlike plastic coverings, the floors don’t go mouldy underneath… Continue reading Flagstone scrubbing (third time lucky)
Window seats!
What a beautiful day! It’s warm inside and out as the radiators are belting out the heat too! Sam is back to connect the electrics up to the fuse box to get the sockets working, and to fit more lights. He is fitting two adjustable spot lights inside the inglenook fireplace in the sitting room… Continue reading Window seats!
Durgo & heating!
This innocent bit of pipe work has taken months to get fitted! It has taken so long as no-one knew exactly what was needed here. This vents the soil pipe from the bathroom and at the top sits a Durgo valve, a necessary bit of kit to equalise the pressure in the soil pipe. No-one… Continue reading Durgo & heating!
Earth, we have a problem
Sunday morning and Cat is painting the sitting room ceiling, a job she has understandably been putting off for a while as there is SO MUCH cutting in and her arms and neck are already hurting… Our brass lights are well wrapped up to protect from the paint. Another epic task. It’s all about the… Continue reading Earth, we have a problem
A bit of privacy
Saturday has come around fast (again, where is the time going?) and Glynn is fitting our bathroom door today. I was all set for singing while I was on the loo… The door is a new solid oak ledged cottage door bought from Coventry Demolition and has been oiled with Osmo Polyx oil. Glynn’s measurements… Continue reading A bit of privacy
